About Richard Cable

I have been designing rooms for as long as I can remember. As a child, I drew floor plans instead of coloring in coloring books and asked for building blocks, LEGO sets, and grid paper for Christmas. Long before I understood that interior design could become a profession, I already knew it was what I wanted to do.

I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, magna cum laude, from Winthrop University and have practiced professionally for more than 36 years. Before relocating to Huntsville, Alabama, I worked in Boston and New York City. Those experiences broadened my understanding of architecture, scale, materials, and craftsmanship and continue to influence my work today. My projects now extend throughout North Alabama and across the country.

My approach begins with the architecture, the setting, and the way my clients want to live. I do not impose the same style on every project. Instead, I work to create interiors that feel natural to the home and unmistakably personal to its owners.

I am drawn to rooms that feel warm, collected, tailored, and enduring. My work often combines traditional craftsmanship and architectural detail with clean lines, natural materials, antiques, contemporary furnishings, and meaningful art. The goal is never to create a home that feels overly decorated or tied to a passing trend. It should be beautiful and sophisticated, but also comfortable, functional, and meant to be lived in.

In addition to full-service interior design, I prepare architectural construction plans for residential projects and select small businesses. This allows me to consider the entire home—from its floor plan, architectural details, cabinetry, millwork, lighting, and finishes to its furnishings, artwork, window treatments, and final styling.

I serve as the in-house interior designer for Matrix Builders and David-Bryan Homes and work with many of North Alabama’s premier builders, architects, craftspeople, and trades. I also work directly with private clients on new construction, renovations, individual rooms, furnishings, and complete residential interiors.

The creative and design side of Richard Cable Interiors is personally directed by me. My partner, Brian Davis, serves as managing partner and brings specialized expertise in custom window coverings, helping us provide clients with an attentive, organized, and comprehensive design experience.

After more than three decades in the profession, I still find the same excitement in a well-resolved floor plan, a beautifully proportioned room, and the moment a house begins to feel like home. t feels unmistakably like the people who live there.
